A coated abrasive is made up of a backing substrate layered with abrasive mineral (grit), bonded using a system of adhesive layers. The initial adhesive layer, called the make coat, attaches the abrasive grit to the backing. This is followed by a top layer of adhesive, known as the size coat, which reinforces the bond and incorporates reactive fillers to improve grinding efficiency. These additional fillers in the size coat enhance the performance of the abrasives during use. This detailed manufacturing process ensures excellent adhesion and functionality, yielding high-quality coated abrasives that are versatile enough for a wide range of industrial applications, including grinding, polishing, and surface preparation tasks.
